The 2018 Aquila Water Hyacinth Project has commenced.
After the successful completion of the 2016 and 2017 Water Hyacinth Aquila Project, Serpentine/Jarrahdale Landcare Group have asked us to host the 2018 Water Hyacinth Aquila Project to detect water hyacinth on the Serpentine River.

Floating water hyacinth, (Eichhornia crassipes) has invaded parts of the Serpentine River and is a declared pest in Western Australia (WA). Under WA legislation it is assigned – Eradication category. This weed has the potential to block large sections of the river and spread into other waterways. We must stop it before it becomes unstoppable.
Aerial images of the river, taken helicopter, are presented over the Internet to volunteers who search those images for this invasive aquatic weed. We have approximately 30,000 images to search so please join Team Aquila to help us complete the project. The images, which are marked as containing water hyacinth are then located on the river and the plants destroyed.
